I’ve been training and competing in multiple agility venues since 2005 and have put several championship titles on my dogs. I’ve attended NADAC Championships since 2009 and have earned podium placements. I’m the trial chair for Circle of Friends Dog Agility, a NADAC club that offers a welcoming, supportive environment for new teams at our Atlanta-area competitions. Because I frequently adopt dogs no one else wants, I’ve conquered a lot of behavioral challenges with my dogs and have become a lifelong student of canine behavior. Many of my students come to me because they need help with behavior or because their dogs need an outlet for their energy. I’ve been teaching since 2014 at my private arena in Greene County GA. I absolutely love teaching beginners! I prefer to start students with private lessons to address their individual needs, and then integrate them into a group when they’re ready. I believe that agility training should be a lot of fun for both dog and handler, and I use only positive training methods. I teach for competition, but even handlers who don’t have competition goals can enjoy the tremendous bond with their dogs that agility training creates. There’s nothing like the joy of feeling perfectly connected with your dog on an agility course, whether it’s at a national championship or in your backyard. Schatzi and I were able to trial extensively up and down the east coast while living there from 2009 - 2015 which helped her earn a total of 54 NATCHs (semi retired now at age 12). I am most proud of her second place at the 2013 Championships for NADAC in Springfield Illinois in Starter Stakes (distance work). The dogs and I have competed in seven NADAC championships and love catching up with friends from around the world who compete! Since 2016 I have been teaching NADAC style agility at my facility - SchaSam Farm in Stanwood Washington. I try very hard to encourage youngsters to have fun with their dogs by sponsoring high in trial awards for junior handlers at most of the trials I attend. As much as I love running my own dogs, watching a kid I trained come off the course with a huge smile on his/her face makes me smile twice as much! She has competed with her Border Collie, Tebow for five years in NADAC, AKC, and CPE. They have achieved several Natchs,V-Natchs, and All Around Natchs in NADAC. They went to NADAC Championships in 2017 and finished in third place in their group. They have a MACH in AKC and a CATCH in CPE. Rachel enjoys several venues, but NADAC is her favorite. She likes the courses and doing distance work. She loves agility because it is a sport that you can have fun, bond, and compete with your dog. She says, "There is nothing greater than being an agility team with my best friend."
